Live Model Performance Game is a collaboration between artists Close and Remote (featuring Roney Fraser Munroe) and the IMPERFECT team of researchers and academics from the University of Bristol, the University of Oxford and the University of Sheffield.
Live Model enables groups of people to work on challenges relating to Net Zero. It is played against the clock with sets of cards issued to each player. In the course of the game, discussion and consideration is made in relation to a specific ‘scenario’.
Live Model is built around the idea of organising to deliver, as compared to an exclusive focus on the delivery of Net Zero. Whilst the urgency of the climate emergency demands accelerating delivery, thinking about organising to deliver foregrounds critical but often neglected aspects of achieving change. This includes foundational work required to unlock and guide action and the development of place-based visions for net zero that respond to situated needs and aspirations. The principle of organising to deliver underpins the game in order to prompt reflection and further understanding about this critical governance aspect of achieving local net zero. Players are encouraged to consider their actions through the lens of organising to deliver throughout gameplay and are prompted to reflect on this in the closing session of the game.
Live Model Performance Game was tested and developed with local practitioners at two workshops, one hosted in Bristol (March 2024) and one in Leeds (May 2024). There will be a beta version of a downloadable version of the game available soon. Future avenues for continuing game development are being explored.
This project is funded by the British Academy as part of its Net Zero Governance policy programme.
